Company

The current I. UGATU, S.L. has been in operation as such since September 2003. Created from another company with broad and extensive experience in the sector, we can say that it shares that company's history.

At first, it was established as a single-member company under the total responsibility of Jesús Ugalde, one of its founders back in 1955. Its main activity is the manufacturing of steel nuts but it was in 1956 when it was officially registered as a "screw manufacturer " and it started to work with what would become its first automatic lathes in small privately-owned premises.

For 3 years until the arrival of Mr. Ullastres' Stabilisation Plan in 1959, it worked almost exclusively for a few customers in the North. However, the new situation led the company to find its way in new markets and to appoint the person who would become the company's first representative at national level.

"From great change comes great opportunity" and in 1976 the company finished building new industrial premises which were very modern for that time, on the 1000m² of land it had purchased years earlier.

Immediately after this, the first ventures into the world of imports would begin, which would help the company to improve customer service, by attending to their screw and fastening needs in a more complete way.

In 1995 Jesús Ugalde retired, and although he is still the majority shareholder, he opened the way to a new generation which, in its conviction of the importance of a focus on customers, purchased new premises in 2003 and reorganised the warehouse by semi-automating it and extending it according to the market's needs .

It was also in 2003 when the organisation began to organise and put in writing all of its control and review processes and work methods, which led I.UGATU, S.L. to receive the ISO 9001:2000 Certificate in 2005; another step forward on the road to customer orientation and service.

Almost at the same time, a Family Protocol was drawn up with the objective of guaranteeing the company's continuity despite its Family-run nature, and its website was opened, www.ugatu.com, which allows the company to be in complete communication with its customers all year round, 24 hours a day.

Nowadays, the company continues to work thoroughly in improving warehouse infrastructures, supplier selection, and customer service, the business' basic mainstays.
